This week on Being Mary, I’m joined by Maggie Whitcroft for a thoughtful conversation about emotional healing, nervous system regulation, energy work, and what it means to reconnect with yourself after difficult seasons in life.

I’ll be honest — this was something very new to me, and part of this episode is simply allowing myself to stay curious and open to learning.

Whether this world feels familiar to you or completely outside your comfort zone, I think there’s something meaningful in hearing how different women find their way back to themselves.

Because healing doesn’t always look the same.
And maybe it’s okay not to have everything figured out.

Hi… I’m Mary. And this is Being Mary — where we talk about growing older, staying curious, and living fully in the chapter we’re in.

Today’s conversation is a little different… and one I’ve been sitting with.

We’re talking about healing — but not in the traditional sense.
We’re exploring what it means to reconnect with yourself… especially after emotional pain.

I recently had an experience with energy healing — and I’ll be honest, I’m still processing it.

So today, I’ve invited Maggie Whitcroft to join me — to help us better understand this work, and to explore what healing can look like… even when we’re not quite sure what to expect.

Maggie, I’m really glad you’re here.

Before we get into the conversation — can you share a little bit about what you do, in your own words?

👉 (Maggie to explain her work simply — this is important for clarity)

I’m an intuitive energy healer, and I work with women who are feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or coming out of emotionally difficult relationships.
I help them reconnect with themselves — not just mentally, but in their body and energy — so they can feel more grounded and like themselves again.

Questions for Maggie:

  • For someone who’s never experienced this before… how would you explain energy healing?

·        I explain it really simply — we’re all energy, and life experiences can throw that out of balance.
Energy healing helps calm the system, release what’s been held onto, and bring you back to a more grounded, steady state.

  • What is actually happening during a session?
  • You’re lying down, relaxed, and I work intuitively with your energy system — helping to clear blocks and bring things back into balance.
Afterward, we talk about what came up and I offer simple guidance to support you.
  • Why is it often done in silence?
  • Because that’s when the body can actually relax.
We’re so used to thinking all the time — and silence gives the nervous system a chance to settle and just feel instead of analyze.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

  • Who is this for or who tends to be drawn to this kind of work?
  • Mostly women who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from themselves.
Some are already open to this kind of work, and others are just starting to explore something different.
  • What are women usually feeling when they come to you?
  • A lot of women feel emotionally overwhelmed, stuck in patterns, or like they’re constantly on edge.
They know something isn’t quite right, but they can’t seem to shift it on their own.
  • You speak a lot about emotional pain and nervous system regulation — can you explain that in a way people can understand?
  • Emotional pain isn’t just in our thoughts — it’s something we carry in the body.
When we start to understand that, we can begin to release it and create new, healthier patterns.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

I want to share a little bit of my experience… because I think some listeners might relate.

For me, it was very quiet… very different than anything I’ve done before.
I realized I didn’t fully understand what was happening in the moment — and I found myself trying to make sense of it.

  • Is that normal?
  • Yes, completely normal.
We’re so used to trying to understand everything, that when things get quiet, the mind wants to step in. Part of the process is learning to just be in the experience.
  • Do people sometimes need more than one session to understand or feel the effects?
  • Sometimes, yes.
Some people feel a shift right away, and for others it’s more of a process — it really depends on what they’re working through.
  • What would you say to someone who is curious… but unsure?
  • That’s completely okay — you don’t have to fully understand it to explore it.
If you feel curious, that’s usually enough to start.

THE BODY & SAFETY

(This is one of your strongest areas Maggie)

  • You talk about helping women feel “safe in their own energy” — what does that actually mean?
  • It’s when your body feels calm and grounded instead of tense or on edge.
A lot of us don’t even realize we’re not feeling safe — we just know something feels off.
  • Why does the body sometimes stay in “survival mode” even after a situation is over?
  • The body is wired to protect you, so it can stay in that “on edge” state even after the situation is over.
Over time, that becomes your normal — and that’s what we work to gently shift.
  • How does your work help with that?
  • I work with both the body and the mind — helping to calm the nervous system and bring awareness to patterns.
That combination helps people start to feel more grounded and safe again.

PRACTICAL TAKEAWAY

Let’s bring it back to your audience. Mary to say ..

  • For someone listening who may not be ready for a session… what’s one small thing they can do to feel more grounded or connected?

A simple place to start is bringing your attention back into your body — even just placing your hand on your chest and taking a slow breath.
That small pause can help you feel more grounded and present.

CLOSING

Thank you, Maggie, for sharing this with us.

I think what I’m taking away from this conversation is that healing doesn’t look the same for everyone… and sometimes it starts with simply being open to something new.

And maybe that’s enough.

Until next time, This is Being Mary… and remember … the best chapters are still ahead.
